Using twitter for business
We thought we would share some tips how to use twitter to gain visitors to your website and of course grow your business using this micro blogging network.

1* Tell people who you are

Place an image of your company logo in your avatar/photo, or if you sale a certain product then that is also perfect. This will instantly get peoples attention and start the ball rolling. You also have a 160 character bio, which is perfect to allow you to tell visitors about your business. This will allow your visitors to read a little about you and what you do.

2*Spread the word

Start telling friends, customers, colleges about your twitter page. If you have a website, add a link to your twitter page via a little bird logo. This will instantly grab your websites visitors attention, and if they have a twitter account they will follow you. If you do a lot of communication via email, add a link to you email signature this will help spread the word and help to gain followers.

3* Customize your profile

A great way to instantly grab your twitter profile is to customize your background of your profile. You can add a background image to your twitter profile by following the Settings tab and then click on design. If you’re a feeling brave and don’t want to pay to have someone to design you a twitter background, the best size for the back ground is 2048 x 1707. As a quick tip for a twitter background why not make a design with your website URL, email address or contact telephone number included in the design. Instantly making your business viable to visitors.

4*Follow

Make sure you follow as many people as you can, in other words don’t think for a second that it is cool not to follow any of your followers. If you have 500 followers but you are only following 10 people you are going to look pretty vain. Plus if the vast majority of your followers are potential customers you could be missing out on a sale, client or even a new contact.

5*Get in there!

Join the conversation and look for people talking about a certain product you may supply or a service you provide. For instance use the twitter search engine to find what people are tweeting about using selected keywords. So purely as an example say you ran a online TV stand company and you put into the twitter search engine TV Stand you will get live results with anyone who has updated their status with the keywords “TV” or Stand” included in it. You would be able to scroll through lots of results and you may come across a user called Joe Blogs and he or she has updated their status with “Looking online for a new TV stand anyone suggest any where good?” Perfect! Follow this person immediately and the send them an @Message which could sound something like this. @JoeBlogs if your looking for a great TV stand at a good price why not visit our website at www.” you get the idea. So you have instantly introduced you and your company to the possible customer and who knows maybe even a sale!

6* Retweet

To some up a Retweet is where someone you are following will post something of interest, such as new product or a competition. You then copy their update and post the same update again but to your followers. It is a great way to help spread the word about certain offers or products. Usually if you Retweet a message you will either get a @message saying thank you or you may even gain a new follower.

So thats it, some quick twitter tips to enable you get you started promoting your business on twitter. Twitter really can help to grow your online business with regards to terms of traffic and visitors but also in terms of reaching out into the online community and making new contacts, clients, leads and sales.

The examples given above are of course only examples but hopefully they have made things clearer.

Online business names

Choosing a domain name for your business can be quite difficult, and can take a lot of time to come up with a name. We have put together a short article to help you make that decision.

What are you selling?

Use Goggles Keyword tool to find out how many times online your products or services are typed into Google. So if you were going to be selling “Handmade jewellery” as an example. You would go to Goggles keyword tool and type into the search box “Handmade jewellery”. Once you hit enter you will then have in front of you loads of keywords results for “handmade jewellery”. Once you have all the results on the right hand side change the “Match Type” to Exact. This will then give you an exact number of times that your keywords are typed into Google on a local and global scale. At the time this article was written the Keyword phrase “Handmade Jewellery” had a exact local search volume of 18,100. Look for any high volumes of search results for domain name ideas.

Decisions, decisions

Now its time for you to make the decision. Do you want to purchase a domain name for you business that is your own brand name, or a keyword domain which is already getting search results? It can be quite difficult to make a decision. One key thing to think about if the domain name for your keywords is available is to snap it up straight away whether you intend to use it or not.

If you do decide to purchase the keyword domain for your business, the next decision to make is what domain extension you will purchase. If you are a UK business or are based in the UK the best extension for Google.co.uk is of course .co.uk and .org.uk. Google.co.uk treats them both exactly the same and you will get great results from them. It makes sense for businesses in certain categories to purchase and use keyword domains as you will instantly get a certain percentage of the search volume to your website a month and visitors mean sales! If you purchased the .co.uk extension for handmade jewellery and you only received 5% of the 18,000 search volume a month that is still 900 visitors to your site a month, which certainly cant be grumbled at!

If you decide to use your own name to promote your business it must at least contain one keyword not only help people to remember the name of your business, but also get you he results from the search engines. So for example if your name was Emma and you were in the process of setting up a handmade jewellery store your domain should look something like this “Emmashandmadejewels.co.uk” or “Emmashandmadejewellery.co.uk”. These examples contain those valuable keywords. Sometimes having a branded domain can be beneficial, if people forget the name of your business, because they’ve lost your business card they will probably remember your name was Emma and type into Google “Emma’s handmade jewels” and bosh they’ve found your business again, because it was easy to remember and it contained those keywords.

Remember you can still call your business “Emmas handmade Jewels”, but make sure you use that keyword rich domain name as it will get you great results in the search results.

There you have it, a quick guide to help you choose the right domain name for your website. All of the domains and names in this articles are only examples.

Its every small businesses dream to be on the first page of Google or any other search engine for their keywords, services they offer or products. So to give some friendly advice to help you get those kind of results we have put together a quick top 10 tips to help you.

1* Domain names.

There are plenty of companies out there to purchase domain names from. Try and avoid the free domains available from certain what you see is what you get web design companies, and if you’re a company or a business based in the UK try and get your self a .co.uk extension domain name. Though if the .co.uk extension has been registered then an .org.uk is just as good as most search engines treat .co.uk and .org.uk extensions the same.

2* Don’t get Flashy

So you have spent lots of money on a Flash website, with lots of fancy graphics floating around, shapes and tricks, looks great doesn’t it. But its terrible for search engines especially Google!
